Mid-terminal Illness

So the midterms are over, and the Dems have Congress. Part of me is pleased. As a libertarian, I know that a divided government grows slowest and spends least - both things I like very much. Unfortunately, that is probably the only advantage to the change. The federal goverment is slow enough without the gridlock that division of power brings.

Democrats are abuzz with their victory - and sure, it'd be better thn if they had lost. But they will not be able to accomplish anything. For one, they have a 51-49 advantage in the house, which is insignificant considering there will always be a Dem or two willing to vote with the GOP, and Cheney still holds the tie-breaker. While any judicial nominees or cabinet appointees will go through a gauntlet before any confirmation, Bush already has put 2 Supreme Court justices in place. Quite frankly, there is no position near as important that the Dems will get to challenge - especially considering we have only 2 years in Bush's term.

Unfortunately, a democrat victory changes nothing. The solution? Vote Libertarian :-)
